Who Are We

Our History

The Hearth is a grassroots community interest company based in Southport, dedicated to advancing sustainability and ESG through collaboration. We connect councils, anchor organisations, and SMEs via the CASA business network, strengthening local services and supply chains. Through events like The Great Big Green Lunch and regular beach cleans, we empower communities to make greener choices and take local action. Our mission is to support inclusive, community-led solutions that promote environmental and social wellbeing. We aim to make Southport a greener town to live, work, and visit—where sustainability is accessible, businesses thrive responsibly, and people feel proud of their place.

Championing Heritage and Sustainability

Where Local Heritage meets Green Living

The Hearth is a community-driven sustainability hub dedicated to advancing UN Sustainable Development Goal 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities, focusing on Target 11.4 – Strengthen efforts to protect and safeguard cultural and natural heritage.

We believe that Southport’s future lies in preserving its heritage while embracing sustainability, crucial for addressing climate change. Our mission is to create spaces, programs, and partnerships that protect cultural and natural assets, reduce environmental impact, and foster inclusive, resilient communities.

Through heritage-conscious initiatives, we connect local businesses, community groups, and public sector partners to:

  • Celebrate and protect Southport’s cultural identity and coastal environment in the face of climate challenges.
  • Promote sustainable tourism and green regeneration to combat climate change effects.
  • Deliver education and skills programs that link heritage conservation with climate action, emphasizing the importance of climate resilience.
  • Build collaborative networks that strengthen local supply chains and green jobs, contributing to a climate-friendly economy.

Every project we deliver—from flagship events like Earth Day Southport to sustainability workshops—is designed to make Southport a green place to live, work, and visit, while safeguarding the unique character that defines our town in an era of climate change.
