Heritage & Sustainability

Southport’s Living Legacy

At The Hearth, we believe Southport’s future depends on how well we honour its past while shaping a sustainable present. Our town is steeped in stories—of coastal resilience, Victorian elegance, and community pride. But heritage isn’t just what we inherit; it’s what we create.

We stand with one foot in the past, striding forward with the other into the future, and our head firmly in the present—learning from history, living consciously today, and laying the foundations for tomorrow’s memories.

Why Heritage Matters

Our Mission

Southport’s identity is built on its historic architecture, coastal landscapes, and cultural traditions. From the Viking roots of Otergimele to the Windrush contributions in healthcare and the arts, our heritage is diverse, dynamic, and deeply rooted in place.

But heritage is not static. It evolves through the choices we make now—how we build community, how we celebrate culture, how we care for our environment. That’s why The Hearth aligns with UN Sustainable Development Goal 11.4: to protect and safeguard cultural and natural heritage while fostering inclusive, sustainable urban development.

Connecting Heritage with Sustainability

We see heritage and sustainability as two sides of the same coin. Our initiatives—from Earth Day Southport to the CASA Business Network—are designed to protect what makes Southport special while promoting green regeneration, circular economy practices, and inclusive community development.

We support local artists, storytellers, and changemakers to create heritage-inspired cultural activities that celebrate wildlife, diversity, and history. These events and experiences are not just reflections of our values—they are the heritage moments of the future.

A Living Heritage

Every cultural activity we host, every green event we organise, every story we tell—these are the heritage moments of the future. Our goal is to ensure that future generations will look back on this time not just as a turning point for climate action, but as a golden age of community creativity and care.

We invite you to be part of this journey. Whether you’re a resident, visitor, artist, business owner, or changemaker—your actions today shape the legacy of tomorrow.

Together we can make Southport a place where heritage and sustainability walk hand in hand.
