Southport’s Great Big Spring Clean

COMMUNITY BEACH CLEAN

Join us as The Hearth Network CIC partners with Green Sefton and Southport Rotary Eco Club to deliver a community‑led beach clean as part of Keep Britain Tidy’s Great British Spring Clean. This event brings together local residents, families, community groups and volunteers to protect our coastline and strengthen community pride.

📅 Event Details

Date: Saturday 28 March
Time: 10:30am – 1:30pm
Meeting Point: St James Church, Lulworth Road
We will begin outside the church for registration, a short safety briefing, and a quick wildlife update before walking together (approx. 8 minutes) to Southport Beach.

🧤 What to Expect

1. Registration & Briefing

On arrival, volunteers will sign in, collect equipment (litter pickers, bags, hi‑vis vests), and receive key safety guidance plus information on sensitive wildlife areas. Green Sefton will provide professional ranger support to ensure the activity follows best practice for coastal environments.

2. Beach Clean

Together we will help remove litter from council‑managed sections of the coastline, supporting biodiversity and contributing to the town‑wide spring clean effort taking place throughout March.

3. Impact Count

At the end of the session, we will count the number of bags collected — an important part of reporting Southport’s contribution to this national campaign.

4. Community Refreshments

After the clean‑up, we will return to St James Church for tea, coffee and refreshments, finishing by around 1:30pm.

👨‍👩‍👧 Who Can Join?

  • Everyone is welcome
  • Children must be accompanied by a responsible adult
  • No dogs, as March is nesting season for ground‑nesting birds and we must avoid disturbance to coastal wildlife

💚 Why Take Part?

Beach cleans are a fantastic way to:

  • Connect with Southport’s stunning coastline
  • Enjoy gentle outdoor exercise
  • Meet new friends and neighbours
  • Protect wildlife and sensitive habitats
  • Make a meaningful difference to your local environment
This event supports Southport’s wider Great Big Spring Clean effort — a community‑driven movement showing how small local actions can create real environmental impact.
